History
Indonesia’s National Development Policy has outlined that industrialization is a necessary step to achieve the main economic targets and the national goal of a just and prosperous society based on Pancasila.
Central Java, in particular, sees a significant need for high-quality human resources to develop the region’s potential. This prompted the establishment of the Industrial Engineering Study Program at Diponegoro University, the largest university in the capital of Central Java.
The Industrial Engineering Study Program’s founding began with the formation of a Team to Develop a Proposal for the Opening of an Undergraduate Industrial Engineering Study Program, based on Dean’s Decree No. 60/PT09.H4.FT/SK/X/96, dated October 22, 1996. The team was tasked with conducting a feasibility evaluation, taking into account the resources of the Faculty of Engineering in particular and Diponegoro University in general.
After the program was deemed sufficiently feasible, the establishment permit was sent to the Director General of Higher Education in June 1997. Several consultations and meetings were held, particularly with the Technology Consortium, regarding the characteristics of the Industrial Engineering curriculum at Diponegoro University and the development stages of the Laboratory.
To prepare for the Consortium Team’s visit to UNDIP to directly observe the facilities and infrastructure, a Technology Consortium Team Reception Committee was formed based on Dean’s Decree No. 120/PT09.H4.FT/SK/XII/97, dated December 10, 1997. The Technology Consortium Team’s review took place on January 6, 1998.
The Industrial Engineering Study Program was ultimately established based on Decree of the Director of Higher Education No. 50/DIKTI/KEP.1998, issued on February 23, 1998. February 23 would later be used as the anniversary of Industrial Engineering.
